Recorded in a small club in Copenhagen Raids On The Unspeakable excerpts a scorching and radical performance - so powerful, in fact, that the neighbors protested.

The trio introduces the long-standing and hard-hitting combination of Pupillo and Nilssen-Love to the sonic spider webs of Takara's vibraphone and tympani giving birth to a truly new sound. The result is a freeform deliberation on rock, jazz and chaos bursting with spontaneous disharmonies and grooves. From the loudest grinding to the tenderest of textures Raids on the Unspeakable opens up an exciting new front of improvised music making.

Kumiko Takara is a leading contemporary percussionist and a well-renowned improviser, highly regarded for her work in groundbreaking progressive avant-rock bands Bondage Fruit and P.O.N. In addition, she is also member of Yasuhiro Yoshigaki's groups Vincent Atmicus and Orquesta Nudge! Nudge! as well as Otomo Yoshihide's New Jazz Orchestra.

Massimo Pupillo is a founding member of the influential band ZU, known for the extraordinary power of his bass playing. He is a member of a number of other groups such as Black Engine, Obake, Germanotta Youth, 7k Oaks, Chöd and OffOnOff. In ZU and elsewhere, Pupillo is a busy collaborator, working with Chris Corsano, Mike Patton, Peter Brötzmann, The Ex, David Tibet, Eugene Chadbourne, Katia Labeque, FM Einheit, Yasuhiro Yoshigaki, Kazuhisa Uchihashi and many others.

Paal Nilssen-Love is among the premiere drummers in the world of modern jazz, free improvisation and way beyond. Frequent collaborator of Ken Vandermark, Mats Gustafsson and Peter Brötzmann, all of them members of Brötzmann’s Chicago Tentet. Nilssen-Love's numerous other current projects include The Thing, Atomic, Frode Gjerstad Trio, Fireroom, Lean Left with Ken Vandermark and Terrie and Andy of The Ex, and a duo with Joe McPhee.

Raids On The Unspeakable is limited to 300 copies, each including a unique hand screened cover.

"No matter how obnoxiously aggressive Pupillo's malicious throttling of the cavern notes and Nilssen-Love's onward driving splatter, there's something invariably tranquil about the vibraphone. Raids On The Unspeakable therefore achieves a uniquely unsettling (im)balance between primal brutality and seraphic benificence."
Rock-A-Rolla: Issue 33 (August/September 2011)

"...features Pupilo building dense layers of distorted and scorching sounds through Nilssen-Love's uncompromising drumming, but the addition of Takara's vibes inject an openness and tenderness to this tough mix. (...) ...presents the telepathic interplay of this unique trio, while continuing to explore shifting grooves—deeper and deeper into uncompromising rhythm—with humor, elegance and fearless determination. With Raids On The Unspeakable, this trio demonstrates a rare potential. Hopefully it won't be long until its next release."

"The trio manages to create a heavy and powerful sound, full of darkness and forward drive, keeping the tension even in the sparse lower volume moments."

"hæsblæsende rytmisk ondskab, som meloditeksturerne fra vibrafonen omgærder med en vis mystik. (...) Raids on the Unspeakable er medrivende disharmoni, medrivende onde grooves."
"...breathtaking rhythmic evil, surrounded by a certain mysticism from the melodies of the vibraphone. (...) Raids on the Unspeakable is captivating disharmony, captivating evil grooves."
